National Tobacco Control Programme(NTCP).
Tobacco is the most preventable cause of death in the country. Diseases like cancer, cardio vascular and lung disorders are directly attributable to tobacco consumption. The high consumption of tobacco in the country is a matter of serious public health concern.
National Tobacco Control Programme has been implemented with a view to contain tobacco use in the country.
The main components of the National Tobacco Control Programme are as follows:-
Setting up of State/ District Tobacco control cells
District Tobacco control Programme.
IEC & Mass media campaign .
Training and capacity building of health workers school teacher etc.
Capacity building of labs.
Monitoring and evaluation.
For effective implementation of anti tobacco legislation ministry of Health & Family Welfare Government of India dated 22.5.2008 directed to make State/ District level committee, monitoring to be constituted under section 25 of the Cigarettes and other Tobacco product( Prohibition of Advertisement and regulation of trade and commerce production supply and distribution) Act to enforce the provisions of Indian tobacco control Act 2003 which is as follows:-
